"The theme of Sketching in Hardware 2014 is boundaries and crossings. Some lines drawn by people on the landscape are arbitrary, yet no less important and no less difficult for those who want to cross them than rivers or mountains. Likewise, in technology some boundaries are arbitrary, yet just as challenging to manage as those created by physical laws.

At Sketching this year we will explore where the boundaries between technologies lie, which are physical and which are arbitrary, and how to cross them. As the cloud bridges some boundaries between devices, new ones appear, and as for every new device we add to a system, we get a new set of boundaries and need new ways to cross them. Are there situations where we need boundaries? Are there bridges we do not need?"
